Where did you go?

MountRedoubtEruptionI was so used to having you around in my life all the time and now you’re no where  to be seen. Life seemed content; I had no worries. My only worry for the day would be, “What’s for dinner?” Now, I rarely see you come home anymore and when I do you’re usually with someone else. All of this for one job? Is it really worth it? We have food on the table, financially stable, and most importantly, we had a family. Now, there’s always someone else living in our house and when that person is gone a new one comes along. I never really understood why that was and I don’t think I ever will. Home should be viewed as “Home sweet home”; it shouldn’t be an unbearable place. It should be one’s sanctuary; a place of privacy. The house was already crowded enough as it is with two families; an extra person really does make a difference. Especially if that person is constantly complaining and making salty, oily food that is better left uneaten. It was just fine the way it was before. If it’s because you’re lonely, you have your kids to turn to. Now I only see you for a brief moment in the morning. After that, I don’t know when you come home because by then, I’m usually asleep. I wouldn’t mind as much if I wasn’t an only child, but with a younger sibling there’s bound to be some damage. You’re so oblivious to what’s going on and it leaves everlasting scars that I want so badly to heal. You wouldn’t hesitate to fix a friend’s drama that can be fixed by his/her own but when it comes to own children, you wouldn’t even turn your attention towards it. Even worse, you’re well aware of the problems at hand. You have to stop pointing fingers at us and be willing to address the issue and work it out. When we’re arguing, you can’t just veer off the subject when you realize that I do have a point. You have to reflect on the issue and do something about it. I know my younger sibling is not the trouble maker that you think she is. She’s only like that because she has no guidance to keep her in line. I know, it should be my duty to watch after her, but I can only do so much with conflicting schedules. I’m trying so hard, but I don’t even know if my efforts can save us. Where did you go?

Word of Advice

“A moment on the lips; a life time on the hips”

Shhh, don’t tell mom.

The word “diet” is often misused whether it’s cutting the number of meals you have in day or getting rid of your indulgences ENTIRELY. It’s inhumane and it ruins the purpose of food. Food not only provides energy but should be eaten in enjoyment. Life becomes a little more bearable when the food you eat makes you content. It’s only contentment if food lives up to its name: comfort food, indulgences, desserts.

  1. Trade in the old for the new. Here’s where math comes in handy. That chocolate molten fudge you’re craving? Substitute it for a  hot chocolate banana-nut oatmeal instead, chocolate heaven with a crunch of a nut topped with a hint of banana. Breakfast just got better: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/hot-chocolate-banana-nut-oatmeal-recipe.html  Eventually with repetition and time, the cravings will lessen and you’ll be hooked onto new foods (vegetables, fruits, whole grains) with your changed palate.
  2. Work out to pig out. Turn those carbs into abs. Those ab workouts, lunges, crunches, cherry pickers, planks, squats….for the price of eating whatever you want, how ever much you want? Uhhh yes! Studies also show that there’s a release of endorphins after working out. Happiness+ food= satisfaction.
  3. Eat more meals. Three meals a day…how about five? Instead of splitting up your meal plan into three big meals, split it into more meals but with less food on your plate. Doing this, you increase your metabolism by allowing your body to digest more meals at a time. It’s amazing what your body can do.

The next time you’re craving, debate it with the tips and tricks above before making the final decision. Enjoy yourself!!

Write It Wednesday

“Someone Else”

[Chorus]
If you’re looking for love
Know that love don’t live here anymore
He left with my heart
They both walked through that door without me
If you’re trying to find pity well, you need to look somewhere else
‘Cause I surely can’t help you
I’m hurting myself
I’ve turned into someone else
[Verse 1]
I used to believe love conquered all
‘Cause that’s what I’ve seen in movies
Come to find out it’s not like that at all
You see real life’s much different
[Pre-Chorus]
I don’t wanna see you go
I only wanna see you smile
It hurts so much just thinking of
Felt like this for awhile
I can’t stand to see us fail
We cried, we lied
Cannot pretend to take us back
To what we had, to make us feel alive again
Hold me close, don’t let me go, I hope
Tell me now is not the end
[Chorus]
If you’re looking for love
Know that love don’t live here anymore
He left with my heart
They both walked through that door without me
If you’re trying to find pity well, you need to look somewhere else
‘Cause I surely can’t help you
I’m hurting myself
I’ve turned into someone elseI’ve turned into someone else[Verse 2]
I used to believe love conquers all
‘Cause that’s what I felt when you held me
I thought you’d catch me if I fall
And fill me up when I’m empty[Pre-Chorus]
I don’t wanna see you go
I only wanna see you smile
It hurts so much just thinking of
Felt like this for awhile

I can’t stand to see us fail
We cried, we lied
Cannot pretend to take us back
To what we had, to make us feel alive again
Hold me close, don’t let me go, I hope
Tell me now is not the end

[Chorus]
If you’re looking for love
Know that love don’t live here anymore
He left with my heart
They both walked through that door without me
If you’re trying to find pity well, you need to look somewhere else
‘Cause I surely can’t help you
I’m hurting myself
I’ve turned into someone else

[Bridge:]
[2x]
Love is patient
Love is selfless
Love is hopeful
Love is kind
Love is jealous
Love is selfish
Love is helpless
Love is blind

Love is patient
Love is selfless
Love is hopeful
Love is kind
Love is jealous
Love is selfish
Love is hopeless
Love is blind

Yeah, yeah
Ooh, yeah
I’ve turned into someone else

On Miley Cyrus’ new album, Bangerz, this is her longest song, clocking in at 4 minutes and 49 seconds. In the past I’ve been required to write short stories and have them be in an exact amount, the hardest part of this is to be able to get across the message in such a small amount of words. I feel like this is what makes songs great. They are usually no longer than 3–5 minutes and they can get stuck in your head and if they do mean something to you, they can help you get through whatever it is you’re dealing with. Of course, all songs are open to their own interpretation, but the obvious message in this song is after going through the relationship, Miley has changed into “someone else” and although is sad about the fact things are over, she knows she’s become stronger now and can stand her own ground. Tell me what you think about this song, and leave your favorite song in the comments

Well-rested Wednesday

Nowadays it seems like no one gets enough of sleep. We’re staying up late doing last-minute homework or our mind is roaming around to different thoughts, making it difficult to sleep. Much similar to Oedipus at Colonus, he continues to roam around the land despite how weary and tired he is.  Getting enough of sleep traces back to time management. Let’s face it, right when we get home we go straight to the coach to turn on the TV and watch a myriad amount of shows, or we go straight to our room to what was supposed to be a five-minute nap turned into 2-3 hours. After spending hours at school, the last thing we want to do is to sit down and finish our homework for the day. Each day is like an uphill battle, it only gets more difficult and frustrating as we near our way to the top.

Here are some tips for sleeping earlier and getting a goodnight’s rest:

1. Allow your body to digest. Avoid eating two hours within your bed time. It takes a lot of energy for your body to digest your food and will make it difficult to sleep.

2. Fight food-coma lounging. Instead of getting yourself comfortable on the couch after eating a big meal, get off the couch and get your mind distracted: getting your clothes ready for the next day, taking a shower, or finishing your chores.

3. Read a book. This is where your textbooks come in handy. An informative book will loosen the grip on your book and will help your eyelids get heavy. Before you know it, you’ll be asleep before getting to the end of the page. If you are reading a page turner, make it your day-time read.

4. Wake up earlier. By the end of a long day, you will tire out and it’ll be easier to sleep early. Get in the habit of waking up early so that you can sleep at a reasonable time.

5. Do not procrastinate. Yes, it’s easier said than done; but by doing so, you won’t believe the amount of extra time you’ll have left. Imagine all the wee bit hours you spend social networking, when you can be using that time to do your homework. By using your time wisely, you will be finished with your homework and be left with extra time you never knew you had. More time and more sleep?! Yes please!

6. Turn it off. You may think that by surfing the web and browsing through your phone will allow you to fall asleep faster…*buzzer* wrong! The bright light emitted from your phone/computer stimulates the mind, therefore, makes it harder to fall asleep. An hour before your bedtime, get rid of all electronics and let your mind, body, and soul take over.

7. Lights off. Minimal lighting is ideal for a bedroom setting. Let out your nocturnal self and get rid of as much light as possible-closing the curtains, stuffing towels under the door, and turning off any blinking electronics that happen to be in the room. You’ll be enveloped by darkness and soon enough, you’ll be out.

8. Tranquility is key. Stress and anxiety are factors that can make it difficult to sleep. Drink a cup of decaf tea and allow the tea to erase the stress and anxiety that you may have. In a state of tranquility, going to sleep is more enjoyable and is easier to fall asleep.

9. Sleep cycle. Create your own sleeping schedule by sleeping at a certain time and waking up at a certain time. Your body grows accustomed to repetition. If you sleep late and have trouble sleeping early, sleep 30 minutes earlier and wake up 30 minutes earlier and continue subtracting 30 minutes each day until you have your designated times.

10. Wrinkle free. Double up on your pillows and sleep on your back. By sleeping on your side, you apply pressure on your face in an upward force, creating wrinkles. Also, sleeping on your back allows even blood circulation, which means…puffiness no more! You’ll see a decrease of puffiness in your eyes and the bags under your eyes are less visible. The benefits you can achieve from one simple switch…what a steal.

By following these tips, I hope you all get enough sleep and have a wonderful night’s rest! With enough sleep, you will be more energized and feel more youthful. All of this talk about sleep makes me want to…Zzz

Why Wednesday

Sometimes i find myself asking the same question; Why?

Why bother doing this?

Why should i do this?

Why not do this?

Usually i find myself asking these questions about friends. Why am i trying so hard to please this person? Why are they trying so hard? I realized that if you have to work so hard for someone, and they seem to be floating around doing nothing, IT IS NOT WORTH IT. It really isn’t. I know for some reason you’re making up in your head that tomorrow they will change and if i stop trying they’ll make some gang to beat me up. That won’t happen, if they take that much effort to hate you, why didn’t they use that effort to like you?

If you really are hooked on someone to be your friend and you are always the one making plans or trying to get them to do something with you, don’t do that for a week or so and see how they react. Maybe they’ll think they did something and need to ask you about it. Some might not say anything at all. This really shows people’s true colors and feelings towards you. Good luck finding your true friends, but honestly those ones shouldn’t be hard to find.
